Maja Zagórska (born in Zgorzelec, based in Berlin) is a visual artist working with moving images in relation to narrative spaces. Born and raised in the duality of a border city—between Germany and Poland, West and East, first- and second-class citizenships—she continues to shapeshift between archival footage and CGI animation, artistic research and Slavic fairytales, screen and stage, the personal and the political.

Maja studied and failed journalism at the University of Wrocław, completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin, and spent a period studying Intermedia Art at the Edinburgh College of Art. She is currently completing a post-MFA fellowship (Meisterschülerin) at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin.

Her work has been presented in exhibitions, film festivals, and theaters, including Kunstraum Kreuzberg Bethanien (Berlin, DE), Foyer 42 (Basel, CH), Filmfest Dresden (DE), Freiburger Film Forum (DE), Neuköllner Oper (Berlin, DE), Opera Spanga (NL), Theater Rampe (Stuttgart, DE), and Berliner Festspiele (Berlin, DE), among others.
